The theme for today is Ch-Ch-Changes or do you say Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes??? Yep, that would be another musical reference. The weather was looking a little dicey last night for the next several days in Montana, so when we woke up this morning we made the call to Ch-Ch-Change our route once again. Instead of going up to Glacier National Park where they are expecting snow around 6,500 feet (Logan Pass is 6,656)…Mr. Fun says, thunderstorms, rain, snow, mountain roads and motorcycles don’t mix well! So…we opted to go to Missoula, MT today. Even with that re-route we still spent about 1/2 our travel time in the rain.
We did a late breakfast at Shellie’s Country Cafe (on the recommendation of the family we met at Mark’s In and Out yesterday in Livingston). They were right, a great local place! As we pulled into the parking lot it started to sprinkle and by the time we ordered it was quite the mountain shower. Everyone in the cafe was worried about us taking off in the rain. We waited for that storm cell to move through and decided to go ahead and gear up for the rain. The radar showed that we were going to be in and out of it all the way to Missoula…the good thing…that’s only about 130 miles or so. We managed to make it about half way before we ran into the rain again. It was looking pretty nasty, so Mr. Fun suggested we stop at Trixi’s Antler Saloon in Ovanda, MT. What a cool place and the stories about Trixi are something else…this is her obituary. After some coffee/hot chocolate and pie, we were back on the road. The rain had moved through and it looked like we might have clear sailing the rest of the way.
Not so fast…about 10 miles down the road another cell started to form. We decided to ride on through it since we didn’t have very far to go. That was a good decision, about 15 miles down the road we were out of the rain and into some beautiful sunshine and beautiful scenery as we traveled along the Blackfoot river. We did get a few more sprinkles as we came into Missoula. Settled into the hotel and saw a beautiful double rainbow as the rain moved on through. Some days it rains…how you deal with it is all in your attitude…it was still a good day for a ride and we enjoyed our time cruising through the mountains and valleys of Montana.
