Our day started with working our way through DC without traveling on an interstate…that’s not as easy as it sounds. There are only a few bridges across the Potomac that aren’t interstates, so we worked our way north, around the Pentagon, up to Arlington Cemetery, across the Arlington Memorial Bridge, into DC, past the National Mall and finally into the Maryland countryside. It’s amazing how quickly you can be out of the madness of DC traffic and into peaceful blue highways.
We made our way on into Delaware to catch the Lewes, DE to Cape May, NJ ferry. In Lewes we dropped off our DE state geocaching poker chip. The ferry ride was great with great weather. We met another motorcycling couple on the ferry that were from Florida and headed to Nova Scotia to do some riding. There were several lighthouses we saw as we made our way across the Delaware Bay. We saw lots of dolphins playing just off the side of the boat and even got to see a whale breach.
We made it to New Jersey and on up to Atlantic City in time to watch the Penguins beat the Sharks 3-1. Woo hoo!!! That puts the Penguins up 3 games to 1 in the Stanley Cup Finals.
